Harvey Emil Hulke was born on May 1, 1924 in Courtland Township, Nicollet County to Emil and Edna (Bode) Hulke. After graduating from Nicollet High School, Harvey began working on the farm as a hired hand. In 1946 and 1947, he served his country in the U.S. Army after World War II. He operated a crane while stationed in Japan to help with the re-building of that country after the war. After returning from his military duty, he married Ardella Bode on October 21, 1948. They farmed for over 40 years until Harvey retired in 1989. During those years, Harvey worked diligently to grow his Holstein herd of cows into one of the top-producing herds in Nicollet County. He enjoyed being close to nature and the blessings God provided for him. Harvey was a life-long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church at Courtland. He served the Lord by being on the finance and 1964 church remodeling building committees. Harvey also served as elder, trustee, treasurer and mission treasurer. He was a long-time member of Immanuel Lutheran Men's Club and the Lutheran Laymen's League. His role in farming also led him to serve AMPI as district president and delegate. Harvey also was a 4-H leader for 10 years. He enjoyed traveling to see many parts of our continent by going to Washington D.C., Florida, the Rocky Mountain states, and Canada. Using his God-given ability to repair or manufacture equipment to serve a need was enjoyable for him. He enjoyed being able to work with and spend time together with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
